Founder

Sophie Mallen

Sophie founded The Barre to bring proper barre teaching to Dún Laoghaire, alongside reformer Pilates and the pregnancy and postnatal work the studio is known for. Everything is taught by her and a small team — no rotating rota of strangers.

“Barre is a relatively new discipline in Ireland. It's an incredible full-body workout, and it's fun too.”

“We spend so much time sitting. Barre offers the same toning, strengthening, deep core work and connection as Pilates, at a faster pace.”

How we teach

Personalised support, every class.

Group sizes are limited by the room itself: four reformers, one barre. That means springs set for your body, hands-on corrections, and modifications offered before you have to ask for them.

It matters most in pregnancy and postnatal work, where load, breath and pelvic floor need watching week to week. If you're returning after birth, surgery or a long gap, start with a private session and we'll build from there.
